Eden focuses on targeted, more impactful landscapes where we implement comprehensive restoration strategies in partnership with local communities. Each project follows a structured development process from initial assessment through long-term monitoring and adaptation.
Chimanimani Landscape Restoration Project
The Chimanimani Landscape Restoration Project is transforming 206,000 hectares in Mozambique's biodiverse buffer zone through community-driven restoration. Working with 22 communities, Eden facilitates the protection of 60,000 hectares of healthy forest while actively restoring 95,000 hectares of degraded land. This comprehensive 15+ year initiative balances ecosystem health with sustainable livelihoods, safeguarding endemic species and empowering local communities.
Cinturón Verde Restoration Project
The Cinturón Verde Restoration Project spans 96,500 hectares surrounding Tegucigalpa, restoring vital forests that provide water for over one million urban residents. By connecting five protected areas through biological corridors, this initiative safeguards cloud forests, pine-oak forests, and broadleaf ecosystems while strengthening community resilience against climate impacts in Honduras' increasingly vulnerable dry corridor.
Lamu County Mangrove Restoration Initiative
Along Kenya's northern coast, our Lamu County initiative is revitalizing the country's largest continuous mangrove ecosystem across 154,000+ hectares. By partnering with coastal communities who have maintained traditional relationships with these forests for over 700 years, we're fostering climate resilience, protecting critical wildlife habitat, and supporting sustainable livelihoods for more than 126,200 people in the region.
Mau Forest Complex Restoration Project
The Mau Forest Complex Restoration Project works with local communities and government partners to restore and protect Kenya's largest Afromontane forest ecosystem—a critical water tower sustaining 13 rivers, millions of people, and the iconic Mara-Serengeti wildlife. By coordinating existing restoration efforts and implementing advanced techniques, we're fostering landscape connectivity while supporting sustainable community livelihoods.
Sunkoshi Basin Restoration Project
In Nepal's Midhills region, the Sunkoshi Basin Restoration Project spans 257,400 hectares, strengthening community-managed forests that have shown impressive recovery. Working with over 1,100 Community Forest User Groups, we're enhancing biodiversity, improving disaster resilience, and supporting sustainable livelihoods while building on Nepal's internationally recognized model of forest governance.
Carbon Projects
Eden develops high-integrity carbon projects that combine forest protection (REDD+) and reforestation (ARR) to generate verified carbon credits while delivering substantial co-benefits for communities and biodiversity.
Dakatcha Woodlands Carbon Project
The Dakatcha Woodlands Carbon Project protects 241,000 hectares of Kenya's most threatened coastal forest ecosystem in Kilifi County. Through innovative carbon finance, this 40-year initiative combines forest protection and restoration to safeguard endangered species while supporting sustainable livelihoods for local communities through a landscape-scale approach that honors both people and planet.
Musokotwane-Nyawa Miombo Woodland Carbon Project
Within Zambia's Kazungula District, this 185,000-hectare initiative restores critical wildlife corridors connecting major national parks within the world's largest transboundary conservation area. By rehabilitating degraded Miombo woodlands through community-led efforts, the project aims to generate 3-6 million carbon credits while creating sustainable livelihoods across 23 communities in two traditional chiefdoms.
Olokeri Carbon Project
The Olokeri Carbon Project works with Maasai communities to preserve 153,000 hectares of culturally sacred Naimina Enkiyio Forest in Kenya's Loita Hills. This 40-year initiative combines indigenous stewardship with carbon finance to protect biodiversity-rich Afromontane ecosystems, potentially generating 8-29 million tCO₂e while supporting sustainable community livelihoods and preserving vital cultural heritage.
Rubeho Mountains Carbon Project
Spanning 394,000 hectares in Tanzania's globally significant Eastern Arc Mountains, this 40-year carbon project combines forest protection and restoration to generate 13.7-19.3 million carbon credits while empowering 40 villages to sustainably manage their natural resources, protect rare biodiversity, and secure critical water sources for millions of people downstream.
