Dakatcha Woodlands Carbon Project
The Dakatcha Woodlands Carbon Project targets 241,000 hectares of Kenya's threatened coastal forest, aiming to generate 15+ million carbon credits over 40 years. This integrated REDD+ and ARR initiative combines protection of ancient Miombo woodlands with community-driven restoration, exemplifying Eden's strategic shift to carbon-eligible landscapes in East Africa.
Lamu County Mangrove Restoration Initiative
Along Kenya's northern coast, Eden's Lamu County initiative demonstrated our capability to restore Africa's largest continuous mangrove ecosystem across 154,000+ hectares. This historic accomplishment successfully restored 1,120+ hectares while developing innovative techniques and community partnerships that provide valuable foundations for future carbon-eligible mangrove projects in similar landscapes across the region.
Mau Forest Complex Restoration Project
The Mau Forest Complex Restoration Project (2020-2024) demonstrated Eden's capacity to restore Kenya's largest Afromontane forest ecosystem—a critical water tower sustaining 13 rivers, millions of people, and the Mara-Serengeti wildlife. This historic initiative established restoration frameworks and community partnerships that laid groundwork for future carbon-eligible landscape projects in the region.
Olokeri Carbon Project
The Olokeri Carbon Project partners with Maasai communities to protect 188,000 hectares of sacred Naimina Enkiyio Forest in Kenya's Loita Hills. This phased 40-year initiative integrates traditional stewardship with carbon finance to conserve biodiversity-rich Afromontane ecosystems, targeting 8-29 million tCO₂e while sustaining community livelihoods and cultural heritage.
