Launching Two New Landscape Restoration Projects
With your help, this year alone we launched two impactful restoration projects: Cinturón Verde Restoration Project in Honduras and the Lamu County Restoration Project in Kenya. Together, these two programs span over 250,500 hectares, a transformative step toward restoring critical ecosystems and supporting the communities who depend on them. In Honduras, we’ve prioritized safeguarding water resources, managing wildfire risks, and reestablishing landscape connectivity for climate resilience. Meanwhile, in Kenya, we are restoring mangroves and coastal forests, vital habitats for local communities and vulnerable species. These efforts lay the groundwork for thriving, resilient landscapes for future generations.
Advancing Our Work in Chimanimani
In our landscape restoration project in Chimanimani, Mozambique, we met important restoration milestones so far this year, including the establishment of a seedbank which preserves native seeds to boost biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. This resource ensures a steady supply of high-quality seeds for planting across Chimanimani and beyond, preserving the area’s natural diversity. The seed bank will also help with seed germination in the future, ensuring flourishing and diverse development of seedlings.
Launching Carbon and Climate Action in Zambia
Recently, 475 community leaders, government officials, and NGOs gathered in Zambia to discuss sustainable development. This workshop highlighted the project’s long-term goals and engaged local leaders in advancing our shared climate objectives. The Eden team introduced our carbon project initiatives, sharing the project’s strategic direction, timelines, responsibilities, and its importance in Southern Zambia. With 185,000 hectares in focus, it was a key opportunity to educate community leaders on the project’s goals and expectations.
Mitigating Disasters and Assisting in Recovery across Africa, Asia, and Latin America
With climate change intensifying fires, floods, and other hazards, disaster response has become central to our work:
- Kenya: Collaborating closely with local partners in Kijabe to support urgent disaster relief efforts following a devastating landslide, providing supplies and resources to impacted community members.
- Nepal: Building landscape resilience to protect against future disasters and supporting those impacted by damaging floods and landslides.
- Honduras: Responding to a record wildfire season to protect thousands of hectares, building and maintaining over 100 km of fire breaks in vulnerable landscapes preserving vital habitats and water recharge zones.
