For nearly two decades, Eden: People+Planet has championed tree planting as a powerful tool for restoring ecosystems and combating climate change. While planting trees is key to our landscape restoration strategy, the climate crisis is accelerating, and it's time to do more.
To have a lasting impact, we must act now, work together, and take bigger strides to address the complex drivers of deforestation and environmental degradation.
Why We Need Tree Planting and More—Now
Tree planting initiatives have made a positive impact, providing both ecological and economic benefits. However, by going beyond tree planting and embracing ecosystem restoration, we are addressing the root causes of deforestation and degradation, strengthening vulnerable landscapes against future challenges. Our nearly 20 years of practical experience have shown that while important, a tree-centric approach does not consistently deliver the lasting change needed to combat the drivers of climate change.
By working with supporters like you, we design and implement landscape restoration–a science-based approach that considers entire ecosystems and the relationships they share with the people who depend on them. We integrate tree planting initiatives into a broader landscape restoration strategy, allowing us to tackle climate change more effectively, restore ecosystems on a larger scale, help prevent wildfires in critical areas, and foster sustainable community development. We've seen firsthand that restoring whole landscapes, in tandem with tree planting initiatives, generates more lasting environmental and social impact.
